Weekend Recap

Phewww...what a long weekend we had!!  I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family.  We had a really great Thanksgiving this year.  We enjoyed it at camp with family and a couple of our friends.  And guess who forgot to bring their camera??  Yeah, this girl.  =(  So unfortunately no Thanksgiving pictures today.  My inlaws did take some pics, so I'll have to steal theirs! ha!

We seriously got so much accomplished while the hubby and I were on days off.  Friday, Black Friday, we headed to Lowes to pick something up.  We decided to check out the Christmas trees while we were there, and ended up finding an awesome deal on an artificial pre-lit tree.  We've pretty much always had a fake tree.  I do love real ones, but they are a lot of work ;)

These two love each other so much!!  I was pretty worried about the white lights on the tree at first.  We have *always* had colored lights on our tree.  But once it was up and decorated I found that I really really like them!!

Our Elf, Patch, showed up last week.  He came early and just "observed" from our Mantle.  And then the day after Thanksgiving is when he started in on all his fun stuff =)

Day 1: Patch hid in the mailbox with a new movie "NorthPole"
Day 2: Patch Bungee jumped from our tree =)
Day 3: Patch thought it would be fun to zip line from the tree to our mantle where a small box of chocolates was waiting for Emma
Day 4: Silly Patch drew Minions on our bananas!

Emma gets the biggest kick out of getting up in the morning to see what Patch has been been up to =)

The other night Emma stayed at camp with her cousins and Alyx decided to "chill out" in our room to watch a movie...

She's so spoiled...diva life right here!!

While she relaxed, so did I...

Christmas movie, and wine...what could be better?!?

We always put candy canes on our Christmas Tree, and we did this year as well.  But we no longer have them on our tree...

Alyx thought she needed every.single.one off the tree.  She doesn't like them, but I think she thought they all tasted different, and she wanted to "try it" as she said! haha =)

I finally finally made homemade chex mix this weekend!  It's so simple to make, but I only make it around the Holidays.  My family gobbles this stuff down like it's going out of style.

I'll post the recipe I use this week.

Yesterday we put our outside lights up!  Every year we do it a little differently.  Last year we did all colored lights outside, and this year we did all white lights.

Brian just *loves* doing this each year!

Finished!  Well, kind of.  We still have the garage to outline, and there is a small shrub on the left side of the house that I want to put lights on.  I could keep adding and adding if Brian would let me ;)

That's all today...I hope you guys have a fabulous Monday!!!

What's Up Wednesday

Happy Wednesday, Ladies!  I'm linking up with Mel, Shay, and Sheaffer for What's Up Wednesday =)

What we're eating this week:

Well, I know this will come as a shock to most of you, but turkey! ha =)  We have a really great menu planned for Thanksgiving, and i'm already drooling thinking about it =)

What I'm Reminiscing About:

Past Thanksgivings.  More so when I was growing up, we had Thanksgiving with my Grandmother.  This will be our first Thanksgiving without her.  Although I haven't been home for Thanksgiving in about 12 years.  I will definitely be thinking about her and all the yummy food she used to cook for us =)

What I'm Loving:

I am LOVING that I have had my family home every night this week!  Brian has the entire week off, and doesn't go back to work until next Monday.  When you have a husband that works overnights it's so awesome when you are home together at night.  And the girls love it too =)  I'm also loving how well Emma is doing in school this year!

Yesterday she was given an award at school for being a "Super Speller" =)  She also was chosen out of her entire 4th grade class (100ish) kids to sing a solo at her Schools Christmas Concert!!!  I'm beyond excited for her!!! =)

What We've Been Up To:

I would show you pictures, but I'll save you from it.  We spent the last 2 days cleaning junk out of our house.  I cleaned all of our closets and bagged up bags upon bags up bags of toys that the girls just never play with.  Many bags later, the closets are completely clean....just in time for Christmas!

What I'm Excited About:

The Christmas season of course!  I can't wait for it!!!!

What I'm watching/reading:

These shows are seriously my absolute favorite.  And if you've not read either of them, you should.  I'm just about done Sharp Objects!

What I'm Listening To:

This on repeat all day everyday.  We love us some Michael Buble!

What I'm doing this weekend:

We really don't have much of anything planned other than putting our Christmas Tree up!!!  The rest of the house is decorated, but the tree is a must this weekend!!!
What I'm looking forward to Next Month:

All things Christmas.  Can you tell we're I'm excited about it =)

I hope you all have a fabulous Thanksgiving, and I hope you are able to spend it with the ones you love.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

Happy Monday

Happy Monday!  It's kind of a crazy week this week, and it's Thanksgiving week! =)  We awoke this morning to s.n.o.w.

I heard the snow plow go by and it was so loud that it woke me up out of a dead sleep.  Guess we will be used to that sound very soon.

We had a pretty good weekend, although Brian and I worked most of it.  The girls spent time with their Mimi and Pop.  Emma went to church and Sunday school Sunday morning with my father in law.  I asked her how it was and she said "It was so fun mom!"  I asked her what was so fun about it and she says to me "We did word searches in Sunday school and prayed"  She definitely made my heart smile <3

I made some little adjustments this weekend on my blog, including a blog button.  I'm not sure how many people use them, but if you do, feel free to grab my button!

<div align="center"><a href="http://johannahsirois.blogspot.com" target="_blank" title="The Sirois Family"><img src="http://i865.photobucket.com/albums/ab211/kreatedbykelsey/Kinley%20Adele/thesiroisfamily.png" alt="The Sirois Family" style="border:none;" /></a></div>

It's also on my side bar too.

We have a really busy week ahead of us.  Brian is off from work until next Monday.  I work just Wednesday this week.  I have lots of cooking to do this week to prepare for Thursday, but I love it, I love to be in the kitchen, I just don't like picking everything up after! hehe =)

Anyway, that's really all I have for today.  And don't forget, myself, Justine and Jenny are hosting a Christmas Ornament Show & Tell, and we would love to have you link up with us on December 7th!

Happy Monday Friends!!!

Friday Favorites

It's Fridayyy!!  Although when you are employed in my line of work, Friday isn't always Friday.  Sometimes Fridays are Mondays...so technically it's Monday for me. Have I confused you yet?!?  Anyway...linking up with some favorites today!  First off linking up with Narci, Andrea & Erika for, Friday Favorites!

Yesterday I mentioned that I have an exciting announcement  =)  I'm super excited to announce a fun linkup that myself and two other great bloggers are hosting!

Myself, Jenny from The Chronicles of We and Justine from Full Hands Full Heart are hosting a "Christmas Ornament Show & Tell" =)  I participated in one a few years ago and it was fun.  The linkup will take place on Monday, December 7th.  So if you want to join us, linkup with us on that date and show off your favorite Christmas Ornaments and tell us about them =)  It's also a great way to meet some new bloggers!  I will keep reminding everyone, so don't worry about forgetting to linkup with us on that day ;)  If you want to linkup with us that day on Instagram too, please do, using the hashtag #ChristmasOrnamentShowandTell2015

Can you seriously believe we are less than a week away from Thanksgiving!  I love this time of the year.  Have I mentioned that before?? Haha!  We do the same thing for Thanksgiving each year.  We spend it with Brians side of the family at their hunting camp.  We did have it one year here in town, and it was not the same at all.  There is something about being out in the middle of the woods with family that is just fun!  Brian and his brothers and father always spend the night before Thanksgiving at camp with all the kids.  I stay in town and cook the night away for the next day =)  Lots of pies, sweets, sides and appetizers.  Although this year Alyx will probably stay here with me rather than at camp.

Alyx was soooo little, her first Thanksgiving in 2013 =)

I have to say, i'm starting to get really sick of hearing all about the Starbucks cup and how it's not "Christmasy" enough.  It's red and green.  And honestly, when I think of Christmas, the first two colors that come to my mind are, well, red and green!  I bought a reusable cup from Starbucks the other day, and I have to say that I really like it, and it says JOY.  Maybe they got enough complaints from people that they decided to do something different with the reusable cups?  I'm not sure, but either way, I like both of them! =)

Emma has been doing fantastic this season at basketball.  Her team hasn't started games yet, they start the first part of December, but they have had a ton of practices and after an hour of practicing, she is one tired little girl.

She has learned that this is nothing like her REC league she was in last season.  They are actually learning the sport this year and the rules that go along with it.  She has fun with it, and is always excited about her next practice.  It helps that her coaches are amazing too.

I am loving the fall/wintery colors for nail polish right now.  I have been wearing OPI's Lincoln Park After Dark and also OPI Viking in a Vinter Vonderland...side note, aren't the names of their polish the best!!!  Right now I am wearing OPI I'm Not Really a Waitress

I love it, and when I put a gel top coat on, it stays on without chipping for over a week.  Love it!

Did anyone tune into the new show Chicago Med on Tuesday night?  I'm pretty obsessed with Chicago Fire & Chicago PD, so Chicago Med has had me really excited.

Brian jokingly asked me when Chicago Sewer Department was coming out, hehe =)  He's not a huge fan of any of these shows but he will watch them at times with me.

I hope you all have a great Friday and Weekend!

Also linking up with these wonderful ladies today!

Thoughts for Thursday

Good Morning everyone!  I'm linking up today with Annie & Natalie for Thoughts for Thursday =)

I've missed the last couple of Thursdays linking up, so i'm glad to be back!

First off, am I the only one that is seriously excited for Christmas this year??  We have started our Christmas season soooo sooo early, and honestly i'm loving it.  I love all the decorations, and growing up my mom would decorate just a couple of weeks before Christmas and then take everything down just before the New Year.  There really wasn't a lot of time to enjoy all the decorations.  We have had our house completely decorated {minus the tree} for almost a week now.  The girls LOVE it!  Alyx is so into all the lights I have up, and she is going to love the Christmas tree lights.  Speaking of Christmas and trees, make sure you come back here tomorrow for a fun little announcement! And no, i'm not pregnant! haha =)

There is one thing about this time of the year that I despise...I leave for work in the morning when it's dark and when I get out of work at 4pm it's getting dark.

I don't have the luxury of leaving my office at all during the day, so I feel like most days I don't see sun light at all.  I took this picture the other day on my way home from work.

Bonus though, that same night when I got home from work Brian and the girls had dinner completely made and ready when I walked through the door =)

And our favorite wine as well!  Alyx was VERY excited as you can see to have dinner! hehe =)

Okay, so since I got on the topic of things I despise...I also don't like this...

When you get into the car to bring your oldest to school and the windows are completely covered in frost.  #iwasborntoliveinwarmweather
I need to remember to start my car earlier so it defrosts.  Or Brian needs to buy me a car starter for Christmas...I like that idea the best! ;)

I had a meeting at work yesterday and my mom watched Alyx, so after I met up at the mall with them and we did a little shopping.

And sipped on some wonderful Starbucks.  I love their reusable JOY mugs, and not a bad price for $2.00!  Alyx thoroughly enjoyed dragging the bag around too =)

Brian had training all day yesterday so we met up for dinner when he was done at our favorite sushi restaurant.

Both girls were with us, and I have to share my proud mom moment.  There was an older couple probably in their late 60's early 70's that were sitting across from us.  They kept looking over at us and would kind of smile at us.  I was trying to keep Alyx happy, and as this couple were getting ready to leave the gentleman walked over to Brian and I and said, "you both are doing something right as parents because both of your children are exceptionally well behaved" =)  Hearing that made me want to cry.  It really really meant so much to me that a complete stranger told us this.  I like to think my girls are well behaved, and for a complete stranger to compliment them and us, it made my heart smile <3

That's it for today, I hope you all have a great Thursday and remember to check back tomorrow for that announcement! =)

World Prematurity Day

Yesterday was World Prematurity Day.  I have blogged a bit about Emma being a preemie before.  But here is a little more about her =)

Never once did Brian or I imagine we would have a preemie.  In my mind the first few weeks I was pregnant with her I thought the sickness would go away eventually.  I didn't just have morning sickness, it was all day long.  My doctor assured me that around 12 weeks or so I should start feeling better.  Well, that didn't happen.  I remember all I wanted to do was just sleep or lay in bed all day.  I was so jealous of other pregnant women who were feeling great and had all this energy, and then there were the stories from people who would tell me how "perfect" their pregnancy was.  It got a bit old after a while.  So at 28 weeks, 09/11/2006, I had a routine checkup with my doctor.  After he was done I remember him sitting down next to me and saying, "This baby is coming today, or possibly in the next week".  Brian and I looked at each other and just bawled...well I cried and he just hugged me.  My doctor told me he wanted me to leave his office and head straight for the hospital to the labor and delivery floor and check in.  It was all so surreal.  Brian was absolutely amazing and made all the phone calls that needed to be made, to my work, my family and his family.  My first night there I had to share a room with another patient who happened to be an employee at the hospital that we were at and every nurse was in and out 1000 times during that day/night.  The next morning I requested a private room, and thankfully I got it.

The sickness continued during my hospital stay and on 09/15/2006, my blood pressure skyrocketed to a number that was absolutely crazy and I developed the worst headache I have ever had in my entire life.  I remember the nurses coming in and wrapping the rails on my bed with pillows and blankets.  I looked at Brian wondering what in the heck they were doing.  The nurse informed me with my blood pressure as high as it was they were afraid I would start having seizures and they were wrapping the bed to protect me if I started to have them.  That afternoon they cut off all visitors to my room and I remember laying there with Brian in the complete darkness just crying.  Shortly after midnight on 09/16/2006 the nurse came in and told me that they doctor would be in in a couple of hours and they would make the decision then.  And then at 4am, the doctor and nurse came in and told me that today was the day.  I was scared out of my mind.  Shortly after 7, they whisked me away to the OR and began the c-section.

At 7:38am on 09/16/2006, our little miracle, Emma, was born.

She was tiny.  3 pounds.  I was not able to see or hold her until almost 7pm that night.  Almost 12 hours after I had her.  She was in the NICU, they were trying to control my blood pressure, and I had just had a c-section.
I remember being wheeled into the NICU that night and holding her for the first time.  She was perfect and I remember being so scared to hold her.

I stayed in the hospital for a few days after having her, and I tell you there is *nothing* worse than being discharged without your baby.  It was the worst feeling ever.  We got home and there was this emptyness.  All of her stuff was out and waiting for her, but she wasn't with us.  But I was thankful that I still had my baby that I could visit until it was time to bring her home.
We were in the NICU for a little over a month and she came home with us when she was just 4 pounds.  It was crazy bringing such a small baby home, but she was healthy!!

I'm thankful to every single Doctor and Nurse our hospital and NICU.  They are amazing amazing people.  I'm also extremely thankful for a healthy 9 year old now =)
Thinking of every parent out there that has spent time in the NICU or is still in the NICU with their baby or babies.

Tuesday Talk {Randoms}

Hi!  Happy Tuesday.  Monday is behind us, and I'm linking up this morning with Tuesday Talk.

Every morning starts with you know what...coffee for me.  I think I have a really bad addiction to it.  =)

Wouldn't it be fun if we could all get together and chat over coffee?  I have never met a fellow blogger, but I can tell you there are a few ladies that I've "met" through blogging that I would love to meet in real life someday.  This little space of mine has created some friendships with ladies that I've never met in person.  Before starting to blog a few years ago, that was nothing that ever crossed my mind.  I just wanted to document our days with Emma and Alyx.  I just love this little blogging community =)

The Holidays are getting closer and honestly, my family couldn't be more excited!  Well, maybe not Brian, he's a man so sometimes he doesn't really get all my Christmas excitement ;) hehe
We love love love Hallmark Christmas movies, well Emma and I do.  Alyx obviously doesn't really get it yet, but give it a couple of years and I'm certain she will love them as much and me and Emma.

These are a few movies that Em and I are excited to watch.  And even this morning Emma got up the same time as me and she was watching a Hallmark Christmas movie.  A girl after my own heart =)

I have mentioned my complete love for Yankee Candles before, but have you seen the new personalized Yankee Candles??

{source}

I love this idea!  And such a great gift for Grandparents.

That's all for my Tuesday Randoms today.  I hope you all have a fab Tuesday!!!!
