Spring Blog Hop {Cleaning with Vinegar}

Happy Thursday Friends =)

Today I am joining several other bloggers and sharing some Spring tips!  Some are sharing some spring cleaning tips, and some are sharing some fashion tips and tips for kids.  I hope you will get some useful information out of all of them!

I am sharing with you advice and tips with cleaning with vinegar.

So let's start with some tips!

To freshen up your washing machine, because let's face it, they can get pretty nasty smelling!
Measure 1/2 cup vinegar and 1/2 cup water and put it in your detergent tray  (for front loaders) or right into the wash tub for top loaders.  Run through a normal warm water cycle, with no clothing in it.  When the cycle completes, wipe the seal with a wet cloth and leave the door open to air out.

To freshen your towels, this is my absolute favorite tip!  My blog buddy, Justine, is the one that originally told me about this!  Towels can get stiff and kind of smelly.  Even if they are clean!  So here is a tip on how to make them fluffy and smelling fresh again.

Throw your towels in your washer with hot water and one cup of white vinegar.
Run them through again in hot water with 1/2 cup of baking soda.
Don't add laundry detergent to either cycle.

Your towels will be almost like new again!

This one I always get a little leary about using chemicals on.  So this solution is perfect for refrigerators.

Mix one tablespoon of vinegar to 16 ounces of water and pour into a spray bottle.  Spray on shelves and walls on interior of refrigerator and wipe clean.  You can use the same solution on the outside of your refrigerator as well.  It will leave your fridge sparkly clean!

I hate cleaning toilets.  Like really really hate it.  If we're being honest, usually my husband does it =)

Pour 1/2 cup to a cup of vinegar in the toilet bowl.  Let it sit for about an hour and then swish it around and flush it.  That's it!

If you have a normal coffee pot, Keurigs are a bit different and i'll get to that one in a minute.  Fill your coffee pot with equal parts of water and vinegar.  Pour in the water dispenser and run coffee pot as normal.  Empty water and vinegar from coffee pot and run 2-3 cycles with just water.  Wipe with clean, wet cloth until clean.

For your Keurig.
  • Remove the water container on your Keurig, and pour out all water.
  • Fill water container approximately halfway full with White Vinegar {or enough to brew 2 cycles}
  • Place a mug where you’d normally place your coffee mug, and run a brew cycle {without a k-cup}.  The vinegar will run through the machine, cleaning it out along the way!  Toss the contents of the mug down the drain.
  • Repeat by running a second cycle, and tossing the contents of the mug again.
  • Pour out all remaining vinegar from the water container, wash container well, and now fill halfway with water {or enough to brew 2 more cycles}
  • Now brew a cycle with water, toss contents of mug, and repeat brewing 1 more cycle with water.  Remove water container again, pour out remaining water, wash well…. and you’re done!  If you notice any itty-bit of residual vinegar taste in your coffee going forward, simply brew two more water-only cycles.

Pour 1/2 cup of vinegar into your garbage disposal and let sit for about an hour.  Run cold water in the disposal and turn on disposal to clean.
I don't know about you, but our garbage disposal can get pretty nasty smelling.  I used to use 1/2 of a lemon, but it was pretty rough on the blades.  This is much easier to do =)

I really hope these tips have helped you!

Girl Mom Swap Reveal

Happy Wednesday Friends!  Back a little over a month ago, Dara who blogs over at Not In Jersey asked a few of us bloggers if we would be interested in co-hosting a Girl Mom Blog Swap.  I was all over this, because I know how much Emma loves looking at all the stuff I get when I do swaps.  So I knew this had Emma written all over it!

So who was Emma paired with?  She was paired with Dara's daughter, Gabbie!!  I was so excited for Emma and Gabbie both =)  They have even been able to connect with each other on Instagram and learn a little about each other.  That was the fun part of having 2 girls who were a little older for this swap.

I really wish I could have taken pictures as Emma was opening her box...however I wasn't at home when she dug into it! Ha!  I asked her why she didn't wait and her response was, "Well mom, it was addressed to me and I was just SO excited!" =)

Gabbie did an awesome job picking out stuff for Emma =)

Look at all the FUN summer stuff!!

A new Hello water bottle
A Hello clear bag
Super cute pineapple scarf
New Shades
2 bottles of fun summery shades of nail polish
A bottle of hand sanitizer
and a Wet Brush
They were even sweet enough to add a little canvas to paint for Miss Alyx =)

Thank you both Gabbie and Dara!  You guys rocked this swap!!
I'm so glad we participated in this.

If you participated in this swap, be sure to link up below!  And also be sure to check out what everyone else received =)
Have a great day!

Jordan Marsh Blueberry Muffins

Happy Tuesday =)  It's not Recipe Club day, but I am sharing a recipe.  I don't know about you, but Blueberry muffins bring me right back to my childhood.  The smell of them reminds me of Sunday mornings waking up to them.  I can't tell you the last time I made them.  It must have been years ago.  The other day, Alyx came home from daycare telling me she had a blueberry muffin that day.  She is the pickiest eater ever, and I thought there is no way you ate a blueberry muffin kid! ha!  So I texted our daycare lady, and sure enough she told me Alyx ate the entire thing!  So I called my mom up and asked her for her recipe she uses. This recipe is really old.  And it's delicious!

Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup (8 tablespoons) butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 1/2 cups blueberries
  • Equal mixture of white sugar, brown sugar, and cinnamon mixed together.  About 1/2 cup.
 Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Lightly grease a standard 12-cup muffin tin; or line the tin with papers, and grease the papers.
  2. In a medium-sized bowl, beat together the butter and sugar until well combined.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, scraping the sides and bottom of the bowl and beating well after each addition.
  4. Beat in the baking powder, salt, and vanilla.
  5. Add the flour alternately with the milk, beating gently just to combine. Scrape the bottom and sides of the bowl.
  6. Add the blueberries to the batter, stirring just to combine and distribute.
  7. Scoop the batter by the heaping 1/4-cupful into the prepared muffin pan; a muffin scoop works well here.
  8. Sprinkle about 1 teaspoon of the sugar mixture atop each muffin, if desired. It's traditional — go for it!
  9. Bake the muffins for about 30 minutes, until they're light golden brown on top, and a toothpick inserted into the middle of one of the center muffins comes out clean.
  10. Remove the muffins from the oven, loosen their edges from the pan, and after about 5 minutes transfer them to a rack to cool.
  11. Yield: 12 muffins.
And I totally failed to get a picture of them when they came out of the oven.  They are so fluffy and full of flavor.  Alyx LOVED them!

If you try them, I hope you will enjoy them as much as we do =)

hello Monday

Hello!  Happy Monday =)  I am back after almost a week off from blogging!  I hope you will grab our new graphic and join myself and Heather and linkup your Monday post =)

I didn't intentionally take a week off from blogging, but I have been in a "blogging rut" I guess.  But I am out of it now...I hope! ha!  So let's recap the last week.

So spring is upon us...well maybe some of us, but not us here in the NorthEast.

We've been dealing with snow and ice once again.  I'm honestly not sure if Spring is ever going to come.

This meme is just about right =)

Alyx and I made homemade blueberry muffins the other day.  She is seriously the pickiest eater ever.  So when she came home from daycare the other day and wanted a blueberry muffin, I texted our daycare person and asked if she had eaten one there and she replied yes, I was shocked!  So if she says there is something she wants...I'll make it! ha!

I may have to share this recipe soon, because they are SO good!

My little living room makeover is just about complete now.  I am going for that "farmhouse" look, and I am loving it!

Next up is the floors.  They look dirty here in this picture, but trust me they aren't.  They are hardwood and the finish has come off and desperately needs to be done.  We are just trying to decide if we want to spend all the time and money on refinishing them or putting a new floor down.  Decisions decisions!

My love of Rae Dunn has expanded so our dog is now eating and drinking in Rae Dunn style =)

I just LOVE these dog bowls!  I was so excited to find them.  I also passed up the set of 3 flower pots one day last week and when I got home I totally regretted it.  So I went the following day and they were of course gone =(  But I'll keep looking!

This weekend Brian and I had to work.  Saturday was my Birthday, and while I did work, I still had a good day.  The girls and I went to Chick-fil-A for dinner and then did some shopping at Target.  Brian's birthday is this coming week as well, so we plan to celebrate both our days on Tuesday.

The girls current favorite movie is the original Beauty and the Beast.  Thankfully we are taking a break from Trolls! ha!  We watched Beauty and the Beast Saturday night and it was so cute, Alyx wanted to dance with Emma =)

Emma is such a great big sister =)  She puts up with a lot from this little girl, but the love they have for each other is amazing to see.  =)

I hope you all had a great weekend!  Don't forget to link up below =)
Happy Monday!

hello Monday

Hello!  Happy Monday!  I'm excited that Heather is joining me as a new co-host for hello Monday!  So be sure to grab our new graphic, linkup your Monday post below.  Any post goes =)

We had a super busy but GREAT weekend!
Friday after work we headed to Lowes and Home Depot to get stuff for a mini living room makeover.
We literally painted and re-did our living room less than a year ago.  I have really really disliked our wall color since the second it went up on the walls.  But I really thought it would grow on me.  Well it never did.  So I talked Brian into letting us re-do it =)

I never really took a great "before" picture.  So this is the best you get.

I really didn't like the blue at all.  Have I mentioned that before?  ha!
My inspiration was all about Joanna Gaines.

Wouldn't that be great! haha =)

So anyway...Saturday morning Brian started before I was even out of bed.  God love him!

I decided I really wanted shiplap above our fire place, and I was certain the paint color was going to be Agreeable Gray by Sherwin Williams.  Well see to the left of the fire place?  Brian painted that section agreeable gray and I hated it.  So back to Lowes I went to exchange it.  It wasn't the warm grey/beige I was expecting.

So I chose "Perfect Greige" by SW.

When I got home with it, Brian finished the ship lap and got started on the painting.  And then he sent me off shopping with the girls =)  It was way easier for him to paint without Alyx asking him every 2 seconds to help him =)

Alyx thought she should buy this microphone accessory to bring home =)

I got home and it was pretty much done.  Yesterday morning when we got up Brian and both decided we really disliked the orange oak mantle we had.  So he built a new one!  He did really great with it I think!

And the finale picture...

It's such a change, and it's just exactly what I was looking for!!  We've talked about white washing the bricks, but as of right now we're going to hold off on it.  But I think it would look good =)

And last night I took the girls to see the new Beauty & The Beast movie.

Both girls loved it!  And I did too!
It was so cute, and sooo well done.  Emma Watson played an amazing Belle.  If you haven't seen it...go!

I hope you all had a great weekend.  Don't forget to link up with Heather and I below =)
Have a great Monday!!

Recipe Club {Unstuffed Cabbage Rolls}

It's the third Wednesday of the month and that means that it is Recipe Club day =)  Join myself and Heather and share a recipe today.  It can be anything at all =)

I'm pretty sure that I have shared this recipe before.  But if I did it was a loo-nnngg time ago.  So why not share it again.  Because let's be honest, this dish is delicious!

I love cabbage rolls, but they are so tedious to make.  This has the same taste, and it's so much easier to make.

First step.  Cook and stir your beef and onion until browned and crumbly.

I always add my onion powder and garlic powder at this point.  After it's done, drain it.

Return back to the stove and add your tomatoes and tomato sauce.

And then add your beef broth.

Chop up the cabbage and add that to the pot as well.

It is going to fill your pot up pretty good, but it cooks down really fast.

When it's done it will look like this.

Cover for about 30 minutes and let it simmer.

I serve ours over white rice.  This particular day I served it with jasmine rice, and it was delish!

Not the prettiest of pictures, but it is really good =)
Be sure to link up below with your recipe today!!

Also, I am excited that on my hello Monday linkup, Heather has joined me in co-hosting!!
So if you link up on Monday, be sure to grab the new graphic!

Have a great Wednesday!!
