After some very unfortunate events that took place this past week over basketball, Emma is sadly not playing this year.  All the details I'll spare you of but I will say I can't believe how cruel adults can be to 10 year olds.  My heart broke this week for Emma, and this mama bear came out.  In the end she's not playing basketball but thankfully she decided she is giving the swim team a try and I can't begin to tell you all how much she loves it!

She's been on the team a week, and has already advanced to the next level.  I am very excited to watch her progress and compete this season =)

I am finally getting in a groove of different school lunches for Emma. And I absolutely love these lunchbox containers.

You can find the containers HERE.  I highly recommend them.
Alyx and I had errands to run the other day, and she wanted a picture with our pumpkins before we left =)

Such a goofy grin! =)

On our way home from running errands I couldn't help but admire the changing colors on the trees.

Such a beautiful time of the year for sure =)

Emma's 5th Grade photos came in and I love how they came out!!

They gave us a CD with the picture and all sorts of backgrounds, and this one was my favorite =)
She is growing up all too fast!

We have no plans for this weekend since it's our weekend to work, but we will make the best of it!  I hope you all have a great Friday and amazing weekend!!  See you back here on Monday.  Linkup with my hello Monday if you wish =)

Lastly today, Linking up with Karli and Amy =)

Also linking up with Liz, Christina, Natasha, and Darci =)

Recipe Club {Chicken Pot Pie}

Happy Wednesday, Friends =)  I'm excited because today is me and Heather's recipe club!  I have so enjoyed doing this linkup each month with Heather, and the recipes you have shared are amazing!  I have tried several now and they've all been excellent!  So if you have a recipe that you would like to share, grab our graphic and link up with us =)

Today I am sharing my Chicken Pot Pie recipe.  Tis the season for warm comfort food, and this is the go to recipe for homemade comfort food.

1.  You can certainly use a rotisserie chicken for this recipe, and to be honest that is what I normally do.  But on this particular day I didn't have one in, but I did have chicken breasts in the refrigerator.  I put them in a pot and boiled them until they were done.  I also cubed up my potatoes and boiled them first as well.

2.  Dice up your onion and celery.

3.  Melt your butter in a skillet and add the onion, celery and flour and cook for about 5 minutes.  You want the flour taste to cook out and the onions to be somewhat translucent.

4.  Remove the mixture from heat and add the milk and the chicken broth.  Put back on the heat and bring to a boil until it thickens, about 1 minute.

5.  Once it has thickened, remove from heat and add your chicken and all your veggies.

Mix it all together!

6.  I always use a refrigerated pie crust.  And I always use the Pillsbury brand.  I have tried others and I don't really care for them, but you can certainly use whatever brand you love.  Place a pie crust in the bottom of a deep dish pie plate.  And for this recipe you really do need to use a deep dish plate.  Add the mixture to the pie crust.

Even though the pie crusts are technically rolled out for you, I always roll it out even more so that it's not so thick and I have more of an edging.

7.  Once you do that add the second pie crust to the top.  And press the edges together and make some slits in the top.

I  do a slight egg wash on the top before putting it in the oven.  It makes the top nice and that even a word?  I think it is! ha =)

Place in the oven at 425 degrees for about 30 minutes.

On this particular night I served it with stuffing and cranberry sauce.

This is a great fall evening meal or even a winter meal. This is one of Emma's top 3 meals.  Whenever she asks what we are having for dinner she always asks if we are having Chicken Pot Pie =)  The recipe may seem a bit complicated, but it's really easy. You can always add/delete any veggie as well.
So there you have it!  Link up below and share your recipes with all of us today!  Have a great day =)

Fall Polish {Tuesday Talk}

Happy Tuesday =)  I hope everyone has had a good start to the week so far.  So, if you've been reading this little ol' blog of mine for any length of time then you are well aware of my love for nail polish.  If you are new here, well let me introduce myself.  My name is Johannah and I am *addicted* to nail polish. Ha!  Today I thought I would share with you what I believe are the best fall nail polish colors.

My favorite brands are by far OPI & Essie.  I didn't always wear these brands because let's face it.  They are expensive.  However, ULTA has a huge clearance section and they always always have OPI & Essie polishes on clearance for anywhere from 97cents to $4.99.

Fall/Winter is probably my favorite time of the year to paint my nails.  I love the dark and rich red colors.  Don't get me wrong, a great summery pink in the spring and summer is great, but I love me some dark nails.

These are my go to fall nail polishes.  And all of them were bought on clearance!  The lighting in my bathroom wasn't that good, so the picture doesn't do the colors justice.  But let's go left to right.

OPI: Thank Glogg It's Friday
OPI: I'm Not Really A Waitress
OPI: I'm In The Moon For Love
OPI: Viking In A Vinter Vonderalnd (my favorite!)
OPI: Center of the You-niverse
OPI: Let Your Love Shine
Sally Hansen: Slick Slate
Essie: Haute Tub
The one on the very top is ULTA brand, Indigo-go Girl

The only one not pictured, because I couldn't find it that I love is OPI: Lincoln Park After Dark.

There is nothing better than a fresh coat of nail polish!  I have two favorite top coats that I always finish my polish with.

I think both of these top coats work amazing, but are different.  The Sally Hansen is thick and is a gel coat.  It makes your manicure a bit thicker if that makes sense.  And the Seche Vite isn't as thick.  But I love both and would recommend either!

If you aren't a nail polish freak like me than this post i'm sure completely bored you to death, but I am hoping you made it to the end of this post so I can remind you to join the Recipe Club tomorrow!!

Heather and I host a monthly recipe club on the 3rd Wednesday of every month.  Any recipe goes!
I hope you will grab our graphic and join us tomorrow!
Have a great Tuesday!!

hello Monday

Hi Everyone!  Happy Monday!  I honestly am so so glad to see Monday upon us.  It was a crazy weekend in our house and I'm going to recap today.  Grab the graphic and link up if you wish =)

So Friday evening Emma had Basketball evaluations.  We had a really great evening.  We watched her play basketball, came home had dinner as a family, meaning all 4 of us and that is a rare thing on a Friday night, and then we all watched the movie Zootopia.  The girls went to bed and all was good.  At midnight I was awoken to that horrible sound a parent never wants to hear in the middle of the night...vomiting.  Ugh.  I got up as fast as I could to find Emma so so sick and sitting in the middle of her bed =(   The rest of the night was spent just waiting for it to happen again.  I've not seen her this sick in a long time and it completely broke my heart.

Saturday we had plans to finish purging stuff from our basement, and we did get quite a bit of it done, and Emma spent the entire day in bed sleeping.

When she wasn't sleeping in her bed, she was sleeping on the couch.

Alyx had a really rough Saturday because she didn't understand why Emma didn't want to play with her and really just wanted to wake her up.  So when Alyx layed down for a nap, I was so thankful! ha!  I sat down and watched TV and enjoyed an afternoon cup of coffee.

At this point in the day I really just wanted an IV drip of caffeine.  That would have been perfect!

I really loved looking out my living room windows to see all the colors of October right outside my house.

The trees are beautiful this time of the year.

Yesterday Emma woke up at 10:30am, after going to bed at 10pm the night before.  When she walked out into the living room the first thing she said was "My stomach doesn't hurt at all anymore!" Woohoo!!  So thankful and glad she is all better.  We still took it pretty easy yesterday.  We did run to the Halloween store to get her costume before everything was completely sold out, and then the rest of the day was spent at home.

I have to share this bread recipe I made yesterday with all of you.

This bread was delicious!  I made it and brought it to my inlaws last night, and everyone devoured it.
You can find the recipe I used by clicking HERE.

And speaking of recipes, Wednesday is me and Heather's Recipe Club Linkup!  I'm excited to share this months recipe I have chosen.  I hope you will join us =)

I ended the evening by packing Emma's lunch for school for today.

I wish I had someone that showed up at my house every Sunday night and made lunches for all of us! ha! =)

I hope you all had a great weekend and hope you have a wonderful Monday =)

A bit of life lately

Good Morning!  And happy Thursday Friends =)  Things are about to get busy around here.  Our lazy evenings at home are about to be changed by late basketball practices.  So let the crock-pot meals commence!  And please, if you have any good crock-pot meals, share away with me!

So basketball starts this evening for Emma.  She tossed and tossed around the idea of joining the swim club this season instead of basketball, but ultimately chose basketball in the end.  And this Mama is happy because Swim was 4 nights a week with practices getting over at 9pm and then meets on the weekends.  So thankful she chose basketball! ha! =)

Several months ago my dad gave me an old barn board that came from our camp.  It's been sitting at his house since then, and I finally had him bring it to me the other day.  I painted on it and stuck it up on my front porch, and I like the way it turned out =)

It will be fun decorating this area for all the different seasons =)

Alyx and I went into Target the other day, except she fell asleep just as we pulled into the parking lot.

Such a diva!  Sleeping with her Minnie Mouse glasses on ;)

We are always always, well I shouldn't say We, I am always getting in school lunch ruts.  I ordered a thermos from Amazon for Emma and it's been the best thing ever!

I made corn chowder the other night for dinner and I put some in Emma's thermos for lunch the next day.  Before she leaves in the morning I heat it up nice and hot and at lunch time at school it's still hot.  She loves it and I would highly recommend it.  You can find it by clicking HERE.

Have any of your kiddos seen the movie Spookley the Square Pumpkin?  If not, this movie is a MUST!  Emma has watched it the last several years and at 10 years old still enjoys it.  Alyx watched it for the first time last night, and loved it.  It's about a pumpkin who is square and not round like a normal pumpkin.  He gets teasted and taunted by other pumpkins until he meets a Scarecrow who helps him out.  It's a really great movie =)

So the girls watched that and I popped some popcorn and added a few Halloween colored M&M's to it.  The girls enjoyed it =)

That's all I have for today.  I hope everyone has a great Thursday!  See you back here tomorrow =)
