Super Busy!

I have been sooo busy lately.  I have made time to read and catch up on all the blogs that I read every day, but to sit down and actually blog myself...I haven't made the time for it lately.  I haven't even really taken many pictures in the last week.  I've been busy getting all packed for our Disney trip!!  And I didn't think you would all want to see photos of our packed suitcases =)  haha

Anyway...Emma has been on April vacation from school this week.  We really haven't done anything all that exciting either.  We've been to the park a couple of times but nothing overally exciting.  I told her we would probably be laying low this week so we can rest up for our trip.  So we leave in 4 days now.  We are all really really excited.  But.  Yes, i'm putting a But in there.  Wednesday morning Emma woke up and said she could hear a "shh shh shh shh" noise in her ear.  My first thought was, You have got to be kidding me.  I didn't want to take any chances, so I made an appointment for her with the doctor, thankfully they could get us in that day.  She's been dealing with nasty ear infections all winter long.  I had to work so my husband brought her to the doctor and I get the text from him, "She has a double ear infection."  I immediately texted him back to make sure he told the doctor we are flying in less than a week.  He said the doctor wasn't overally excited about that idea, but put her on meds immediately.  I'm hoping and praying with all my might that she gets over this and the meds work.  I'm a mess thinking about my baby girl flying with an ear infection.  I remember once when I was about her age flying with an ear infection and it was painful.  It's always something isn't it?!?

So yesterday I made a pie for the hubby.  I had made it for Easter and he lovedddddd it!  It's super easy to make too.

(I DISLIKE my countertops btw very badly, haha )
(and I did get side tracked and never got a photo of the finished product)

You take a premade graham cracker pie shell.  Or you could make one, but that's just too much work if you ask me.  Cut up some fresh strawberries into the bottom of the crust.  You could use any kind of berry i'm assuming too!  Then, in a sauce pan add 3/4 cups of sugar, 1 1/2 cups of water and 3 tablespoons of corn starch.  Cook that on medium heat until it becomes thick.  Remove from the burner and add a small package of strawberry jello.  Mix it together and pour it into the shell with the berries.  Cool for about 2 hours in the fridge.  And done!  It's really good, and a nice summery type pie.  =)  I made it again tonight with manderin oranges and orange Jello.  It came out just as good!  If anyone decides to try it, let me know how you liked it!  It doesn't have a jello-e texture really, it's creamier!

We took Emma to the park today before Brian had to head to work.  She had a blast.  It turned out there was a little girl there that goes to her school that she recognized.  She was such a sweet little girl and Emma had so much fun!

Not a very good picture, but they were playing Ice-Cream shop!

Em decided she wanted to try this, and was scared to death.  Even though daddy was right beside her she still didn't like it!

It kind of looks like a smirk on her face, but that's a terrified get me off this thing look!  =)

After my husband left for work this evening I took Emma up to Dairy Queen for an ice cream.  She loves her chocolate ice cream with chocolate sprinkles =)

She's all ready for her vacation to see Mickey & Minnie Mouse!  Lets just hope the ear infections get better before then! =)

After trying on shorts and stuff the past couple of weeks, it was making me disguisted to see how pale my legs were.  So I decided to go tanning.  I went today and boy did I burn my back.  It's going to be sore.  My last session is Sunday or Monday for a spray tan.  Has anyone ever had one?  I'm scared to death of them, but they say they look very natural.  We'll see how it goes!

I'll probably be MIA for a couple of days, but we'll see!  I do plan on bringing my laptop along with me on our trip so hopefully i'll be able to do some blogging on it at night....we'll just see how tired I am at the end of the days!  I hope everyone enjoys their weekend!! =)

Loving the weekends!

I am LOVING the weekends right now!  Last year and well for the last 9 years I had weekends off every 5 months.  And only for 4 weeks.  We have a new schedule at work now where I have every other weekend off.  And let me tell you, I LOVE IT!!!  The other thing I love about it is that Brian has every other weekend off as well and they are the same weekends as me =)  So today I got up around 9:30 ish.  I had to work Friday night, so I slept in a bit.  We headed out to camp for the morning.  My inlaws and brother in law and his 2 girls were out there.  The kids and the dogs had a blast.  3 kids & 3 dogs, they were running non stop!  They had the 4-wheelers out so all the girls took turns and went for rides.

That's Emma and my niece Haley =)

Gunner & the new puppy Riley get along pretty darn well!

Emma and Daddy heading out for a ride

The girls love going on 4 wheeler rides!  So we had lunch out to camp, we made our own italian sandwiches.  They were super yummy!  After we left camp we headed back into town and had to go and do a little shopping.  We made homemade tacos tonight for supper.  Regular beef tacos and fish tacos!  After dinner Brian had to get some sleep because he's working a complete overnight shift tonight and Emma and I headed to the park.  I decided to give my shot again at taking photos in manual mode.  So here they go!

This is when Emma screamed, "The playground is all Mine tonight!!"  =)

Okay, so normally I don't allow Emma to go up the slides the wrong way...however..she was the only one at the playground at the time, so I was a rebel and let her break the rules! Haha! =)

So those were the pictures I took in manual!  I don't see a huge difference from manual & automatic, shooting wise.  Other than manual being a pain trying to figure out the correct ISO, shuter speed and aperature.  I'm probably going to stick to mostly taking them in auto, so much easier!! haha

So tomorrow my parents are coming down and picking up Emma.  She is on school vacation this coming week for the entire week.  So they are coming to get her to keep her for a couple of days.  I'm not too sure what I will do with all my alone time while she is gone.  Between school vacation and us going on vacation the week after that, she is going to be out of school for almost 3 weeks.  That's a lot, but I figure she is only in Kindergarden she's not going to miss too too much!

I hope everyone enjoys the rest of their weekend!!  It's a beautiful one here! =)

Final Post (for tonight) - 50th Blog Post!!

I promise this is my 3rd and final post for the night! haha   Anddd I just realized this is my 50th Blog Post!! =)

Brian had to work tonight so it's just Emma and I at home.  I decided to surpise her and we made homemade milkshakes for our snack tonight!  She loved making them!  I let her do everything from putting the icecream into the blender, pouring the milk....and then adding the oreo cookies to them!  They turned out super yummy!  Enjoy the pictures =)

I have never let Emma pour milk before.  I was freaking out the entire time she was doing it!  haha
She did well though!  Not a single spill =)

Enjoying her milkshake.

And then I got to enjoy what was leftover.  Although Emma was a little upset that I didn't save any for Daddy.  I told her though we would make another one on his next night off =)

My Job =)

This week is National Public Safety Telecommunications Week.  I have worked as a 9-1-1 dispatcher for 9 years now.  It's crazy how fast the last 9 years have gone.  I went to college for Graphic Design for 1 year.  When I was in high school that's all I wanted to do, design stuff.  I worked at a local newspaper in High School designing all of their ads for the paper.  I loved it.  It was so much fun.  Then I went onto College and I wasn't as fond of it.  After 1 year of doing that I decided that I needed to do something else.  But what?  I searched and searched.  My father came home from work one night, he is a police officer.  He said you know dispatch is hiring.  I was like yeah right.  All they do is sit in a chair and answer the phone.  Finally I decided to apply.  After filling out about a 10 page application, I had an interview.  I was interviewed by about 6 different people.  Talk about intimidating!  After the interview I had to have a full background check, a polygraph and a drug test.  I thought to myself, a lot of steps to take just to sit behind a desk and answer phones.  After a long time of these interviews and tests, I was finally offered the job.  Let me tell you, it's not just about sitting in a chair answering the phone.  There is a lot more to it!  You never know from one minute to another what the next call is going to be.  It can go from someone making a complaint about the neighbors dog barking, to the very next call a mother calling because her baby isn't breathing.  This job takes a toll on you that's for sure.  The phones both business lines and 9-1-1 phones can ring off the hook.  In between answering emergency phones, you are talking on the radio to police officers, all while entering arrest warrants into the computers.  And while you are talking an elderly man through CPR who just woke up and found his wife of 50 years unconcious, you have an officer asking you to run a license plate for them.  When you tell the officer to stand by because you are a little busy, you can almost hear the sigh on the other end of the radio.  If you've never done this job, you won't quite understand.  But I give every dispatcher credit for the work they do.  It's very hard sometimes when someone calls and takes out their issues on you, calling you every name in the book, cursing, yelling and just mad at you.  Just keep calm and know they are just venting on their frustrations, and you happen to be the one who answered the phone.

There have been many nights after taking a call I think to myself, why in the world do I do this?  Last week I took a call from a 90 something year old lady.  She wasn't feeling well and was really sick.  I stayed on the phone with her until the ambulance was there with her.  The call broke my heart.  She didn't have any family around, she was really sick and crying.  She kept telling me she was so scared.  I kept her as calm as I could until help arrived.  After I hung up with her I just wanted to cry.  No i'm not directly there with these people, but i'm hearing everything first hand.  That same week I had someone jump off a bridge, the caller I was talking to was freaking out.  I had to keep him as calm as I could all while sending out the fire department, ambulance and police officers.  Thankfully that call had a good ending though.  There are just some calls that pull at your heart.  They make me take a step back and think about my life and how some of the petty things I care about really aren't an issue after all.  You take a house fire call where a family has lost everything, you come home and you are thankful you have a place to live.

One really hard thing is, is that I come from a family of public safety personnel.  My father is a police officer, my husband is a police officer and my 2 brother in laws are both firefighter & paramedics.  And they all work in towns that I dispatch for.  So when I send any of them to a call that is bad, not only am I praying for the victims, but i'm also praying for my family and for God to keep them safe as well.  It's hard.  I was once dispatching for my husband, and I had him out on a call.  He called in on the phone and told me he needed an ambulance.  I did my best to try and not freak out, but let me tell you I sure wanted to.  I had no idea what happened to him and why he needed the ambulance.  It's not like we were at home and I could question him to no end.  While we are working if he asks for something, no questions asked, it's just done.  That's just the way it is.  I waited and waited as patiently as I could until I found out what happened to him.  It wasn't anything too major thankfully, but he was on a call and someone had set off some weird chemical bombs and he inhaled the stuff.  He and his partner he was working with both had to be sent to the hospital.  Both were ok though, thankfully =)

Anyway, i'm done with my little rant if will.  I love my job.  I can't imagine doing anything else.  There are good times and funny times in the job as well.  Delivering a baby on the phone was probably the best moment ever in my job!  That's the rewarding aspect of it! =)

Here is a quote that I think every police officer should read.  A lot of officers forget to tell us quite often where they are.  If something happens it's very hard if we don't know where they are.  So here is a quote that we live by in dispatch.  We tend to remind the officers of this quite often! =)

"You may know where you are and what you're doing,
And God may know where you are and what you're doing.
But if your dispatcher doesn't know where you are and what you're doing,
Then I hope you and God are on very good terms."

Pizza Night =)

Last night my inlaws were watching 2 of my nieces for a couple of hours, so I thought it might be fun to do pizza for supper with them!  Emma loves to make her own pizza.  I don't make my own crust, I buy the premade crust, which is way easier.  But it's still really good!  So we headed to my inlaws house for supper.  Which is like ohh maybe 4 houses away from us!  Haha  They used to live much closer...1 house away!  People think it is so funny that my husband and I bought the house next door to where he grew up.   Emma was born 2 months premature, and spent 1 month in the NICU.  It was so helpful to have my mother in law right next door to help me if I needed anything.  In 2008, my inlaws sold their house and built a brand new house 4 houses down, so they didn't move far at all!  =)

My niece Haley making her pizza =)  Dirty face and all =)

Emma being silly!  This girl LOVES black olives.  She put them on her half of the pizza, and then I went to put some on another pizza and the can of them was gone.  She ate every one of them!  Guess it's better than candy! =)

My niece Hannah.  This is the pizza that she and Emma made.  Can you tell which part is Emma's?  Yup, the one with the black olives.  They were pretty upset when they realized they hadn't put the cheese on it yet and they had to cover up their masterpiece with the cheese. Haha

We have a local pizza shop here that makes a Taco pizza.  My husband wanted to try and replicate it.  I must say he did a darn good job!  It was so good!  Here's the recipe if you want to try it =)

                                                                 Precooked pizza crust
Top the crust with Salsa
Add taco cheese
Hamburg (we precooked it)
And then basically any veggie.  We added:
Black Olives
& Lettuce.  Yes Lettuce.  I thought it would get really yucky and soggy, but it didn't!

When it comes out of the oven drizzle it with a little queso sauce and then crumble doritos on top of it!  And that's it!  It was really really good!

And last night I got to meet the newest additon to our family:

Meet 8 week old Riley!! =)

Isn't he absolutely adorable!  Riley belongs to my nieces Hannah & Haley.  They got him as a surprise Easter gift =)  He is so cute and cuddly! =)

Yesterday my hubby and I had a really good day.  We dropped Emma off at school and then I had an appointment to have a recall issue on my Jeep done.  The dealership said it would take a couple of hours to fix so we decided we would hang out in "the city" as we call it.  There is this restaurant downtown that I have been begging Brian to take me to.  I have ordered takeout sandwiches from them at work and they are amazing!  All of their sandwiches are done on their homemade bagels.  They make about 20 different flavored bagles everyday.  And the same with their cream cheese.  Finally he agreed to go there =)  We went and it was still breakfast time so we had homemade Onion Bagels with Lox spread.  Oh. My. Word.  It was amazing, and he had to agree!  Lox spread is cream cheese with smoked salmon in it.  It's just amazing.  As we were sitting their enjoying our bagels we split a homeade Raspberry Lime Ricky drink.  That was super yummy too!  Brian looked at me and said I don't know why it took me so long to come here and eat! haha  He made me laugh.  I told him that I had begged him for like 6 months to go there =)

After we left there we went to Home Depot and bought ourselves a brand spankin new garbage dispossel!  Woohoo!  haha  Ours has been broken for over a year, so we definately needed a new one.  We then went to Kohls, and I got myself a new pair of flip flops for Florida, and then we went to Petco for a new collar for Gunner.  Brian was insistant that Gunner needed a camo collar =)

After all this it was getting kind of close to picking Emma up at school, we came home and hung out for a while before it was time to head to the inlaws for supper.

So I just kind of realized that I did this post kind of backwards.  I went from our evening to what we did in the morning!  Oh well, I'm not going to fix it. =)

I dropped Emma off at school this morning, and now i'm hanging out getting caught up on laundry, did some dishes picked up a tad and now i'm enjoying some time catching up on blogs and watching the Today Show =)  Hope everyone enjoys their morning! =)

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter to everyone!  We had a really great day today.  Well it didn't start off that great.  I got home from work at 2:00 am this morning and my husband met me at the door with Emma's brand new Northface jacket.  Yeah, the dog decided to have a snack while we were both at work last night.  And the snack he chose was her jacket.  Ohhh I was sooo mad.  My mother got it for her and paid a lot of money for it.  We crate the dog when we aren't home and all I can think of is Emma must have left her jacket on top of the crate and he must have pulled it through.  Darn dog!

Emma woke up bright and early this morning, and was anxious to see what the Easter Bunny left!

Finding the eggs =)

Eggs hidden on the wall!

She's totally spoiled.  I never got money in my easter eggs =)

Bubbles trying to get stuff out of her basket!

This is what the Easter Bunny left for goodies =)

And this was our lunch!  We had my parents down for Easter lunch.  Normally we have ham, but I decided this year to do a pork roast.  So easy, put it in the crockpot and let it cook for 8 hours.  It was super yummy!

We had a really good morning and afternoon.  I took the day off and i'm so glad that I did.  I love being at home on days like this and not having to work that night!  We are all exhausted already though.  Up early this morning, and probably to bed early tonight. =)  Happy Easter to everyone!!!! =)  Hope you all enjoyed your day! =)
